h'Kani -
the vulture

h'Kani is the
goddess of vengeance, revenge and blood feuds. And a lot of other terrible
things as well, most of which have something to do with bloodletting.
Her name was transliterated to the more Svetlandic "Caine" and
wary magic users often refer to her as "La Lady" when speaking
about her for fear of invoking her accidentally. She is not to be trifled
with and exacts a high price in return for her favor, even from the most
loyal of her followers. Perhaps especially from them. |

Another reason
to exercise caution around her is that, unlike most of her fellow gods,
h'Kani retains a great deal of influence even into the present day. Not
that she could approach the power she once possessed, but of the remaining
gods, she is still one of the strongest. |

h'Kani is also
the head of the House of Rage which seems to take in orphan,
aimless girls and produce women warriors - women who serve her either wittingly or,
um, not so much. Caine doesn't seem to
attach a great deal of importance to the women she trains- her foremost
obsession seems to be in controlling the lives of wicked men; her precious
black Veksun, a group which has dwindled over the years and presently
consists of only Ivan Churney. (There
is also an opposite group of white Veksun, but they're not as interesting
a collective) |

The women who
serve the House of Rage are often haunted by dreams of a headless
horseman - a spectral apparition which they know will hunt them down
if they stray from the path their Lady wants them to walk - although,
sometimes he appears simply to warn or protect them. |
